Information for Authors

The article sent to the Editorial Board should correspond to thematic sections  of the journal "Powder Metallurgy аnd Functional Coatings"  (Izvestiya Vuzov. Poroshkovaya Metallurgiya i Funktsional'nye Pokrytiya), contains original authoring scientific results, and be designed according to these requirements.

I. Ethics of Authors

Authors of the manuscript of the article follow ethic norms and are responsible for the absence of plagiarism in the publication (negligent citation); they guarantee the absence of falsification of the results of the investigation and reliability and reproducibility of the results of investigations by procedures presented in the publication.

Authors of the manuscript are collectively responsible for the content of the scientific article upon publishing as well as for the absence of any information that can be attributed to the State secret or the commercial secret of the organization, which financed this investigation, in the article. All authors should be active participants of investigations, the results of which are presented in the article.

Authors assume a liability not to sent the same or close by the content manuscript (with copying the illustrative materials) to Editorial Stuffs of two or more journals before receiving the final conclusion from the Editorial Stuff of our Journal.

II. Supplement to the article manuscript includes:

1) License Agreement on the right of publishing without compensation. License Agreement should be filled, signed by all the authors, and supplied in a scanned form in the pdf format;

2) consent to personal data processing (Download) from each author. Attach a scanned pdf and send the original by mail to the editorial address.

3)  figures and tables;

4) abstract on a separate sheet 15–20 lines in volume, which should contain the concrete data on the object and conditions of the investigation (studied substances and processes, ranges of concentrations, temperatures, pressures, sizes, etc.), and methods of the investigation and most important results. Under it, to accelerate the search for the article in Internet, keywords are obligatory noted.

The article and accompanying forms should be sent to the Editorial Board in the electron variant (in a form of several files) through the online-form at the journal site http://powder.elpub.ru/index.php/jour

 For this purpose it is necessary to register and follow the prompting

III. Rules of designing the article manuscript allowing for recommendations:

Text

1.     If possible, use MS Word and the publisher's style file. If a journal accepts manuscripts in ТеХ format, the respective style file and guidelines can be found here.
2.     File names should be in Latin characters without spaces. Do not use long names.
3.     The file of a manuscript should be identical to the original approved by the editorial board. It should contain all corrections by peer reviewers and editors. Changes to the manuscript introduced without the approval of the editorial board will be disregarded. Electronic versions that differ from the original cannot be used.
4.     The text should contain:

  • 4.1. Manuscript title;
  • 4.2. Complete list of all authors;
  • 4.3. Complete affiliation of each author;
  • 4.4. E-mail address of the corresponding author;
  • 4.5. Abstract;
  • 4.6. Keywords;
  • 4.7. Structured body text;
  • 4.8. References (should contain at least 15-20 works cited).

5.     Sample first page of a manuscript:

 Sample first page of a manuscript

6.     Please use only these standard fonts: Times New Roman for text, Symbol for Greek symbols, MathematicalPi2 for handwritten and gothic symbols.
7.     Fonts with point size 12 and 1.5 line spacing are the standard.
8.     Use the International System of Units (SI) for physical quantities and units of measurement, unified atomic mass units for the weights of chemical elements, and IUPAC nomenclature for chemical compounds.

Text Typesetting

1.     Avoid repetitive use of the space bar for indentation. Use autoformatting or the Tab key.
2.     Do not end a line by pressing Enter unless this is the end of a paragraph.
3.     Make full use of your text editor functions: creation of footnotes, enabling and disabling automatic hyphenation, list formatting, indents, etc.
4.     Use periods rather than commas in decimals (correct: 0.25, incorrect: 0,25).
5.     Dates should be rendered in the following format: January 27, 2014.
6.     Text can be formatted using the Format Font window [Ctrl-D]. Symbol * is in the right part of the standard keyboards above numeric buttons. Symbol ° typeset by the combination of keys [Alt-0176]. Symbol ± is typeset by the combination of keys [Alt-0177].

Formulas

1.     Formulas, chemical structures, and schemes should be placed where they appear in the text.
2.     Symbols *, ', ±, single Greek characters, single italic and boldface characters, single variables and physical quantities with only one subscript or superscript, units of measure, numerical symbols, and simple mathematical or chemical formulas (e.g., a2 + b2 = c2, H2SO4) should be typeset in text mode without use of imbedded frames. Other formulas should be typeset using equation editors (Equation or MathType).
3.     Mathematical formulas on separate lines should be typeset completely in the frame of an equation editor. Do not typeset formulas composed of several elements: text, tables, equation frames.
4.     For formulas prepared in an equation editor, standard font settings should be used. Do not change these settings for any element of a formula.

Table

1.     Each table with its heading should be placed on a separate page similarly to illustrations.
2.     Tables are numbered consecutively using Roman numerals in order of mention in the text. The table heading should follow the number.
3.     All columns in a table must have headings and should be divided by vertical lines.
4.     Words in tables should not be abbreviated.
5.     When creating a table use MS Word function (Table – Create Table) or MS Excel. Tables typeset manually with the space bar and Tab key cannot be used.

Contractions and Abbreviations

Avoid word contractions altogether and word abbreviations whenever possible. Abbreviations should be explained in the text unless they are commonly used.

Units of Measure

1.     Units of measure are separated from numbers by a space (17.5 mol %, 77 K, 10.34(2) A, 58 J/mol, 50 m/s2). Exceptions are: 90°,20°C, 50%, 10‰.
2.     A period is not used in abbreviated units of measure.
3.     There are various ways of rendering complex units of measure; however, the selected way must be in consistent throughout the manuscript: J·mol–1·K–1, J/(mol·K), and J·(mol·K)–1.
4.     In ranges and series, retain only the final unit of measure (10–12 mg; 5, 10, and 20 kV; 25–30%; 30, 60, and90°C). The degree when it indicates angles sign is an exception.
5.     Degrees Celsius should be °C rather than °. The latter refers to angles.
6.     Units of measure for quantities under the log sign should be given in square brackets: ln t [min].

Periods and Spaces

1.     There should not be a period after the title of a manuscript or other titles and subtitles, list of authors, their affiliations, table headings, and lists of keywords.
2.     The abstract, footnotes (including footnotes for tables), notes for tables, and figure captions should end with a period.
3.     There should be spaces in references to a table or a figure: Fig. 1, Table 2.
4.     There should not be spaces between quotation marks or parentheses and text included in them.
5.     There should be a space between a paragraph mark and its number: § 5.65.
6.     Numbers with letters should be rendered without spaces: IVd; 1.3.14a; Fig. 1a.
7.     In longitudes and latitudes there should be spaces: 56.5° N; 85.0° E.
8.     Mathematical symbols should be separated by a space only when there are units on both the left- and right-hand sides, but without a space when a unit appears only to the right, for example: 100 ± 2; by a factor of ~2.

Files of illustrations

1.     All illustrations should be placed at the end of the body of text together with their figure captions. If a figure consists of several parts, they should be arranged one after another and have a common caption. In a file, illustrations should not be placed in table cells or grouped in a similar way. The original files of illustrations should be submitted along with the manuscript.
2.     Every illustration file should be named to make it clear which manuscript they belong to and in what order they should placed inside the text. Each file should contain one illustration. If an illustration consists of several parts, they should be grouped in the same file with the correct arrangement of parts.
3.     Vector illustrations should be presented in the format of the graphics editor used to prepare these illustrations. EPS format is also acceptable.
4.     All other illustrations are acceptable in any standard graphics formats, though TIFF is preferable.

IV. Rules of reviewing the manuscript

The article manuscript is reviewed no less than 2–3 leading specialists on the investigation subject matter (anonymous reviewing).

It is concluded if this manuscript can be published in the journal or not:

  • «recommended to publication»;
  • «recommended allowing for the correction of shortcomings pointed out by the referee»;
  • «not recommended».

The referee follows ethic norms and does not use the scientific information obtained in the course of reviewing before its publication in free press in its own interests.

The final decision on the possibility of publication is accepted by the results of reviewing by the Editorial Board of the journal.

Editorial Board follows ethic norms in the conservation of confidentiality of the scientific information of the article before its publication in free press.

Order of Reviewing

1. Primary reviewing (a period no larger than 1 month). A article manuscript is sent to two leading specialists on the subject matter of investigations – double anonymous reviewing (anonymous reviewing means that the referee does not new families of the authors and authors do not new the families of referees).

1.1. If the conclusion «recommended allowing for the correction of shortcomings pointed out by the referee» is obtained from the referee, the article and reviews are sent by e-mail to the correspondence author for answers to questions of referees and correction of the manuscript. The possibility to correct the article is presented once. If the corrected article is not received by the Editorial Board for 1 month from the date of sending the reviews, then the manuscript is removed from publication.

1.2. In the presence of 1 positive and 1 negative reviews, the article is sent to the 3rd leading specialist.

1.3. In the presence of 2 negative reviews (“not recommended”), the article manuscript is declined.

2. Secondary reviewing (no longer than 2 weeks). A manuscript corrected allowing for comments is sent to referees for the concurrence of the corrected variant of the manuscript.

The final decision on the possibility of publication is accepted by the Editorial Board of the Journal.

V. Order and Timing of Publishing the Article

5.1. Preliminary Examination

A manuscript of the article arrived at the Editorial Stuff passes the preliminary examination (1–3 days), during which the following is evaluated:

– correspondence of the manuscript content to the Journal subject matters;

– correspondence of manuscript design to requirements of the Editorial Stuff (see section III of the Rules);

– the presence of an in-line documentation package (see section II of the Rules).

With the revelation of disagreement of the manuscript content to the subject matter of the Journal or to the requirements to manuscript designing, as well as with the incomplete in-line documentation package, a message that the manuscript is declined is sent to the authors.

With the correspondence of the article manuscript to all requirements listed in Rules for Authors and Journal Politics, the article is registered in the electron database of the journal and is directed to primary reviewing.

5.2. Reviewing

5.2.1. Primary reviewing (a period no larger than 1 month).
